In Vitro Proton MRS of Cerebral Metabolites in a Mouse Model of Alzheimer's Disease

چکیده
Introduction Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive, irreversible neurodegenerative disease associated with β-amyloid (Aβ) neuritic plaques, neurofibrillary tangles and neuronal and synaptic degeneration (Selkoe 2001; Blennow et al. 2006). AD is the leading cause of dementia among the elderly. It is characterised by progressive cognitive decline and memory loss, eventually leading to death. There is currently no definitive biomarker for AD.

Application of magnetic resonance spectroscopy for evaluating metabolic alteration in anterior cingulate cortex in Alzheimer's disease
Introduction: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia worldwide. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is often the prodromal stage to AD. Most patients with MCI harbor the pathologic changes of AD and demonstrate transition to AD at a rate of 10–15% per year. Accumulating evidence indicates that the asymmetry changes of left and right brain have happened in the early stage of A...

Transgenic mice over-expressing mutant human amyloid precursor protein (PDAPP mouse) develop several Alzheimer’s disease (AD)-like lesions including an age-related accumulation of amyloid-?-containing neuritic plaques. Although aged, heterozygous PDAPP mice also exhibit synaptic and glial cell changes, that is characteristic of AD pathology, no evidence of neurodegeneration has been observed. T...

Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) noninvasively provides information on the concentration of some cerebral metabolites in vivo. Among those measurable by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS), N-acetyl-aspartate (NAA) is decreased, and myo-inositol (ml) and choline (Cho) levels are increased in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Donepezil, an acetylcholinesteraze inhibitor, h...

Introduction Currently a definitive diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is only possible postmortem, by detecting the two hallmarks of the disease: amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in the brain tissue. There is thus a great need for in vivo biomarkers to diagnose AD with high specificity and sensitivity. Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (H MRS) provides a non-invasive way to ...
